St. Joseph Ward

The St. Joseph Ward is one of the major medical wards in Huruma Hospital. Housed in one of the Hospital's oldest buildings, it has a capacity of 52 beds.

The ward is split with a section for male patients and a section for female patients.

Attached to this ward is the mental health department, the office of the Tuberculosis/Leprosy co-ordinator and a counselling section.

The ward operates at a high volume of seriously ill patients creating a challenging environment for its medical and nursing staff.

Departmental Challenges:
Increase in staff count to meet the massive medical and nursing demands.

Staffing stability to eliminate fluctuations in patient care.

The establishment of a Mental Health section for improved care and a risk reducing separation from the other patients on the ward.

A stimulation of staff motivation toward a greater quality care and harder work.
